Chompin' At the Bit Stringband, although not quite sure themselves, have been told they are the next generation of old-time. Between the group, their musical ancestors go back over 7 generations, filling the western mountains of North Carolina with dance and song. One could say "them boys is from 'round these parts".
After years of going out and exploring different instruments as well as musical
genres
such as Punk, Jazz, Rock -n- Roll, Bluegrass, and even Classical,
these musicians settled back into the style they grew up with. "I tried to fight for years, telling my parents I was a punk rocker and didn't want anything to do with their music, but something about it kept drawing me back. Now I can't get enough" - Lindsey Liden (Fiddle)
This group of musicians, located
in
Asheville, NC, respectfully tip their hats to the greats while adding
there own young fresh style to this generation's old music. Their current and past WNC playing grounds include The Grey Eagle, Jack of the Wood, The Town Pump, The Pisgah Brewery, and the LAAF Festival.
Over the years the have also found themselves in Brooklyn New York,
the Amish country of Pennsylvania, the deep recesses of West Virginia,
the low lands of Charleston South Carolina, the hills of ol' Virginia,
and the city bustle of Charlotte and Knoxville North Carolina, amongst
other places. They love to share the stage with musicians like Jon
Herman, Wayne Erbson, their parents, and other such impressive
musicians. You can catch their music if you tune into radio stations
like WCQS 88.1 FM of Asheville, WNCW 88.7 FM of Spindale,
103.5 Asheville, and Brevard NC radio.
